Blue Barn Residency. May 2019.
My time at the residency revolved around this large watercolor triptych. Building up layers of almost transparent paint, three shapes inspired by the natural surrounding of the property were slowly brought out. For each layer, I paint over the entire surface surrounding the forms, and then move down slightly and repeat once the canvases dry. This ‘durational painting’ achieves a luminousity in the forms I haven’t found possible with any other method.
